The local governments in the National Capital Region (NCR) are now gearing up for the impact of the potential super typhoon Uwan, Metro Manila Council (MMC) president and San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said Friday.

Tropical Storm Fung-Wong (to be named Uwan once it enters the country) is expected to strengthen into a super typhoon this weekend. In its latest bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) noted the storm is moving northwest at 10 kilometers per hour with winds of 75 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching 90 kph.

Tropical Storm Fung-Wong (which will be given the local name Uwan once it enters the Philippine area of responsibility or PAR) slightly strengthened on Thursday as it neared the country. According to the Philippine Atmospheric,

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has directed local government units (LGUs) to complete the preemptive or mandatory evacuation of residents in high-risk areas by Sunday, as Tropical Storm 'Fung-Wong' continues to intensify on its approach toward the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration is currently monitoring a developing storm east of Mindanao that is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility as Typhoon Uwan by tonight or early tomorrow and may intensify into a super typhoon while approaching Northern Luzon.

The tropical cyclone outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), internationally named Fung-wong, has further intensified and may reach the super typhoon category by Saturday evening or Sunday morning,
