The University of Florida ranked No. 1 overall among the nation's "prominent" public and private colleges, according to the City Journal College Ranking, released Oct. 22. UF ranked No. 1 in the College Ranking category for “commitment to meritocracy” and “student free speech.” It ranked No. 2 in the “payback education investment” category.

The report ranks the University of Florida, Florida State University, and the University of Miami as some of the top institutions in Florida. The University of Florida achieved a 3rd place ranking in Admission Rate and Post-Attendance Median Salary, and it was ranked 1st in Graduation Rate.

A new college ranking considers such factors as free speech on campus and alumni success.

Princeton University ranked number one on WalletHub's 2026 list of best higher education institutes in the nation. Other New Jersey schools snagged spots as well.

In WalletHub's ranking, Eugene placed 172 out of 415 college towns. Eugene, of course, is home to University of Oregon, the second largest public university in the state. Eugene also has Bushnell University, a private Christian college, and Lane Community College.
