Start of Tahoe’s Ski Season Delayed, But Mt. Rose Hopes To Open Soon
Reno’s local ski hill has delayed its season opening due to some unfavorable early winter conditions. Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe was originally scheduled to open for the 2025/26 winter season on Friday, November 7, 2025.
According to the weather service, there will only be lingering showers by Thursday night as the snow levels fall to about 5,000 feet or less. On Friday, temperatures are forecast to drop to 30 degrees in the lower valleys and less than 20 degrees in the Sierra regions.
Reaching Tahoe typically begins at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO), which is just about an hour's drive from South Lake Tahoe. Alternatively, you can fly into Sacramento International Airport (SMF), though this option entails a longer journey of around two hours.
On Tuesday at 12:45 p.m. an updated winter weather advisory was released by the National Weather Service valid from Thursday 1 a.m. until Friday Nov. 14, at 4 a.m. for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area.
