Falcons sign K Zane Gonzalez, waive Parker Romo
The #Falcons are signing veteran K Zane Gonzalez following a workout this morning, sources tell me and @RapSheet. The team is waiving Parker Romo, who was 11-for-14 on FGs with Atlanta and missed a late extra point in the 1-point loss to the #Patriots on Sunday. pic.twitter.com/4bdmxMPk7A
The Atlanta Falcons wasted no time trying to atone for Sunday’s fatal error from kicker Parker Romo as the kicking carousel continues to spin round and round for the promising Flacons.ESPN’s Mike Garafolo broke the news on X at 11 this morning.
They already did it after Week 1. Younghoe Koo had been the Falcons' kicker since 2019, and on his first attempt at the buzzer against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Koo made his kick. But a timeout had been called to ice him, and on the second try, he missed.
Gonzalez spent the 2022 season injured and in 2023 was traded by the Panthers to the San Francisco 49ers for a conditional swap of late-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. He was signed to the Washington Commanders practice squad in November of 2024.
Romo joined the Falcons in the wake of Younghoe Koo missing a game-tying field goal attempt at the buzzer in a Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers. Romo was 11-of-14 on field goals and 12-of-13 on extra points for Atlanta.
