Tampa team airlifts hundreds of Americans from hurricane-hit Jamaica
Grey Bull Rescue, a nonprofit based in Tampa and founded by veteran and humanitarian Bryan Stern, has already flown more than 353 Americans out of Jamaica after airports closed and roads washed away. Stern says when every route out was blocked, his team made the call to act.
Pourmans on Water Street hosts Jamaica Hurricane Melissa relief fundraiser Wednesday, donating 10% of sales and collecting supplies for recovery efforts.
However, scientists said, the world is measurably warmer than it was a century ago. Hurricane hotspots like the Caribbean Sea and parts of the Atlantic Ocean are hotter, giving Melissa additional fuel to become powerful. That warmer water also makes for a more humid atmosphere; storms can more easily wring more rain out of wetter air.

Union extend hurricane relief drive to benefit Andre Blake’s Jamaica and Danley Jean Jacques’ Haiti
The Union have extended their donation drive to collect items for people affected by Hurricane Melissa in the Caribbean. They have also expanded the effort, now including goalkeeper Andre Blake ’s Jamaica and midfielder Danley Jean Jacques’ Haiti.
Twin Isle, a locally owned Caribbean restaurant, is holding a fundraiser throughout November to support relief efforts following Hurricane Melissa.
