The US Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground delay for flights bound for Newark Liberty International Airport on Wednesday due to air traffic control staffing constraints.

As of 1:42 p.m., the Sky Harbor website reported over 200 flight delays and over 20 cancelled flights. The Government Shutdown, which is now the longest in United States history, is affecting airports and airport staffing across the nation.

Passengers can expect average delays of nearly three hours, the FAA said, warning that at some point all flights into Florida’s busiest airport could be halted.

DIA officials on Wednesday were bracing as the Trump administration ordered a reduction in air traffic at major hubs later this week.
